Our position
If you have a garage or shed and you ride more than a few miles most days, do not buy a folding fat-tire by default. Run the fit selector first. Fold is a storage solution, not a commute upgrade.
Skip the folder if your ride is a real commute
Three to eight miles each way on pavement wants geometry, lights, and a rack ? not a 65 lb hinge bike. Commute-class frames in the Aventon Level / Ride1Up band exist for this. A folder will work short-term and make you hate the bike by month two.
Skip the folder if hills are the job
Single-speed or weak-geared folding fat-tires overheat and drain on sustained climbs. If your answers in the fit selector mark hills as steep, the score should push you toward path/commute classes with real gearing ? not the cheapest folder on amazon.com.
Keep the folder when storage is the bottleneck
Walk-ups, closets, and trunks still justify the fold. Just budget for weight. If you cannot lift it, the hinge does not matter. Pair this page with the folding and cheapest guides after you confirm fold is required.

Before you buy
Questions people actually ask.
Are folding e-bikes bad?
No. They are the right tool for storage. They are the wrong default for daily pavement and steep hills.
What should I buy instead of a folder?
A non-folding commute class if you have parking space. Use the fit selector ? storage and fold answers drive that call.
